Employees who cycle to work are healthier, happier and generally more satisfied. But what promotes or prevents an employee’s desire to get on their bike? And are there some employees who are easier to convince than others? This was the theme of a workshop at the end of May for companies, town halls, educational institutions and bicycle providers in Moving People, where concrete initatives were developed to promote cycling across all participants’ organizations.
The workshop was facilitated by the consultancy firm MOE.
Louise Vang Jensen is an anthropologist and has studied what matters most when we select our method of transportation. At the workshop, she focused on the following three points:
- Solve the real challenge – find out what motivates your employees
- Think of your actions as prototypes and test them on yourself
- Picture yourself as an anthropologist and become more aware of your organization’s transport culture

Below you can get a little sneak peak of the actions are now being developed in Moving People’s companies:
Who is your target audience? | Explain one or more actions for the target audience: | Workplace Action Plan: |
International employees with less than 10 kilometers to work |
|
|
Employees with less than 7 kilometers to work that do not need the car during working hours |
|
|
The workshop participants’ ideas for actions each involve a specific target group, which the workplace would like to help to get on their bikes more often. For the individual target group, the participants identified the things that promote cycling and the things that hinder cycling. With this in mind, a number of initiatives were selected that could be launched to promote the target group’s behaviour around cycling.
